A Working Farm

Ballicherry is a 400 hundred acre farm situated 5 miles west of Cromarty ,the land nestles into the north facing slopes of The Black Isle .The farm starts at sea level and gently climbs to about 100 feet. The soil is very fertile and can grow and yield good crops of cereals, potatoes and vegetables.

Udale Bay RSPB Reserve meets the farm on the shores of The Cromarty Firth and we are blessed with having a theatre of nature on our door step as we watch thousands  geese ,duck and wading birds flock to the area in Spring and Autumn. The farm is also home to pine marten, roe deer, buzzards and red kite.

At Ballicherry we grow wheat, oilseed rape, malting barley as well as grass and vegetables. We sell seasonal vegetables in our farm shop which is popular with people who enjoy fresh local food.

We run a flock of 100 breeding ewes which produce lamb for market and we have a suckler herd of cows producing beef calves which are sold as yearlings. We also have a small herd of rare breed pigs and some free range chickens producing eggs. Tommy and Bobby our elderly ponies also live with us and are closely watched by Jill our young collie dog.

We have access to woodlands and streams which are managed for benefit of the local wildlife and fish and we participate in a Rural Stewardship Scheme.
